Welcome Back!

After a long (too long) absence, CelticDistrict.com has returned with a completely new, hopefully easier to maintain, architecture. Here as before you'll find an index to all of the best music artists, dancing groups and classes, and general links of interest to the local Washington, DC Celtic community. The cultures of the Nations of Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton Island and Canada, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and Galacia continue to thrive in the Potomac region, including Maryland and Northern Virginia.

A general calendar, one of the original features of this site, will not be restored in the near future. I heartily recommend joining up with the DC Celtic Events Yahoo group, maintained by The Emerald Dragon for almost 10 years now. I will likely use that to submit my own concert schedules rather than maintaining a separate list, though I may announce particular recommended events here.

This site is certainly a work-in-progress, but I hope to continue to develop and improve it (any suggestions are welcome) and restore it to the respected site you remember.

Natalie MacMaster at The Music Center at Strathmore

The Washington Performing Arts Society is presenting Natalie MacMaster at The Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, March 5 at 8pm. Natalie MacMaster is a fiddle player and step dancer who is called "a ball of fire, performing jigs and reels with unstoppable, foot-tapping energy" (Los Angeles Times). She is acclaimed for taking Celtic music to new heights, constantly expanding the boundaries of the genre.

Tickets run between $25 and $58.
